E-Commerce Netherlands: How Websites Used to Look

E-commerce is getting popular since 1994 and right now there are thousands of e-commerce sites around the world. Because of its geographical position and growing economy, the Netherlands is one of the countries that focus on e-commerce deeply. Despite its low population compared to other European countries, there are more than 50.000 online stores there.

Also, e-commerce was worth 23.7 billion euros in the Netherlands last year.

We try to find the first landing pages of popular websites in the Netherlands – thanks to Wayback Machine – to show you how these websites change in a huge time such as bol.com and Albert Heijn. Before you start to check, let us remind you that most of them were a little bit ugly and unintuitive. But don’t forget the quote of Reid Hoffman(The Founder of Linkedin) :

“If you aren’t embarrassed by the first version of your product, you shipped too late.”
